Choosing the Better Part
Scripture: Luke 10:38–42
Martha isn't the villain of this story — she's every one of us on a Tuesday. Someone has to make the meal, manage the house, keep things running. But Jesus's gentle correction isn't about the dishes. It's about where our attention lands when someone we love is right in front of us. Mary chose presence over productivity, and Jesus called that the better part.
This is the tension at the center of Family Strong: our homes can be extremely well-managed, like Martha's, and still miss what Mary found sitting still. Both matter. But only one of them builds connection.
Reflection Question: Where in your week does “Martha mode” — busyness, managing, getting things done — crowd out the chance to simply sit and be present with someone?
Today's Application: Choose one task you could let go of or delay today in order to sit, undistracted, with someone who needs your presence.
Prayer: Jesus, we are worried and distracted by many things. Teach us, like Mary, to choose the better part — sitting with you, and with the people you've placed in our lives. Amen.
