Forever Changes Today

Scripture

Revelation 21:1–7; Romans 8:18–25

The Lord’s Prayer ends with the word “forever.”

That word places the present inside a much larger story.

Revelation offers a vision of renewed creation: God dwelling among people, tears wiped away, death defeated, mourning and pain no more. God declares, “See, I am making all things new.”

This is not permission to ignore today’s suffering while waiting for heaven.

It is a promise that suffering does not get the final word.

Paul describes creation as groaning in labor pains. Something new is being born, even when we cannot yet see it fully. Christian hope is not optimism that everything will quickly improve. It is trust that God’s renewing purpose is stronger than everything that resists it.

Because God’s kingdom is forever, acts of love are not wasted.

Justice pursued is not wasted.
Mercy offered is not wasted.
Tears shed with another person are not wasted.
Faithfulness that goes unnoticed is not wasted.
Work for healing is not wasted.

We may not see the full result. But we are participating in the future God has promised.

Forever changes how we live today.

Practice

Choose one action that reflects the future you believe God is bringing.

Comfort someone who is grieving.
Care for creation.
Repair something broken.
Stand beside someone facing injustice.
Offer hope without minimizing pain.

Prayer

God who makes all things new,
hold me when the world’s pain feels overwhelming. Keep me from despair and from shallow optimism. Give me hope strong enough to act, love, and serve today because your renewing work will endure forever. Amen.
