God Is Our Safe Place - Wednesday, 07/21/2026

Read: 1 Samuel 23:14–18; 1 Samuel 24:1–7; Psalm 142

David knew what it felt like to be afraid.

Before he became king, David spent time hiding from King Saul, who wanted to harm him. David was not just having a bad day. He was exhausted, threatened, and unsure what would happen next. Psalm 142 gives us a window into his prayer from a cave. It is not polished or fancy. David cries out. He complains. He tells God he feels trapped. He says no one seems to care.

That may not sound like a “proper” prayer, but it is a deeply faithful one.

Faith does not mean pretending everything is fine. Faith means bringing our real fears to God. It means telling the truth in the presence of the One who can hold it. David says, “You are my place of refuge.” In other words: God, when I do not know where else to go, I can come to you.

At Rainforest Falls, kids learned that God is our safe place. That does not mean nothing hard will ever happen. It means we do not face hard things alone. When children are scared, when parents are overwhelmed, when families are under pressure, God welcomes honest prayers.

God is not frightened by our fear. God meets us there.

For reflection: What fear, pressure, or worry do you need to bring honestly to God?

Try this today: Make a “safe place prayer” as a family. Each person can name one worry silently or aloud, then pray together: “God, you are our safe place.”

Prayer: God our refuge, when life feels uncertain, help us run to you. Give courage to children who feel afraid, strength to adults who feel overwhelmed, and peace to all who need shelter today. Thank you for being our safe place. Amen.
