Joy in Humility-Thursday, 12/18/2025

Scripture: Philippians 2:1–5

“In humility regard others as better than yourselves…”

Mary describes herself as “lowly,” not as self-hatred, but as clear-eyed honesty about her place in the world. Yet God honors her humility and raises her up.

In Philippians, Paul invites the church to imitate Christ’s humility—an attitude that puts others first, sets aside pride, and makes room for compassion. Humility isn’t thinking less of ourselves. It’s thinking of ourselves less so that love can flow through us.

And strangely, joy grows more easily in humble soil. Pride isolates us. Humility connects us—to God and to others. Joy is not found at the top of the ladder; it’s found when we're kneeling beside someone in love.

If we want Mary’s joy, we must also embrace Mary’s posture.

Reflection Question: Where might God be inviting you to practice humility today?

Action Step: Serve someone quietly today with no expectation of being thanked or noticed.

Prayer: Jesus, shape my heart to be humble like Yours. Help me serve with love and find joy in simple acts of kindness. Amen.
