Keep Building – Saturday, 9/19/2026
Scripture Reading: Romans 12:9–21; 1 John 3:16–24
Strong relationships are rarely built through one spectacular act of love.
They are built through repetition.
Listening again.
Showing up again.
Apologizing again.
Choosing patience again.
Making dinner again.
Calling again.
Forgiving again.
Helping again.
Trying again.
That can sound ordinary.
It is.
And that is the point.
John Wesley believed that God’s grace continues shaping us throughout our lives. We do not become perfectly loving overnight. We practice the way of Jesus, and over time God uses those practices to form us.
Love becomes a habit.
Compassion becomes more natural.
Patience gets stronger.
Generosity becomes less frightening.
We notice people sooner.
We apologize more quickly.
We become less interested in winning every argument.
Not because we have finally become perfect.
Because grace keeps working.
That is one reason Methodists have historically emphasized regular practices like prayer, worship, sharing meals, studying Scripture, caring for people in need, and staying connected with other people trying to follow Jesus.
These are not boxes to check.
They are places where God keeps shaping us.
The same is true at home.
One conversation will not create a strong family.
One apology will not fix everything.
One act of service will not erase years of neglect.
But one faithful choice followed by another begins to build something.
A brick does not look like a house.
But bricks placed together over time become a home.
So as this week ends, remember the five practices from Family Strong:
Connect.
Talk.
Release.
Respect.
Love.
You will not do them perfectly.
Neither will anyone you live with.
Keep practicing anyway.
God’s grace is still at work.
Keep building.
Reflection Question: Which of the five Family Strong practices do you most want to become a regular habit rather than an occasional effort?
Concrete Action Step: Choose one practice for the next month: Connect — Talk — Release — Respect — Love.
Write it somewhere you will see it. Then choose one small, repeatable action that puts that word into practice every week.
Prayer: Faithful God, thank you for never giving up on the work you are doing in us. Keep shaping my habits, my words, my reactions, and my relationships. Help me make love visible through ordinary choices, one day at a time. Amen.
