Thursday, January 8 — “When Fear Isn’t in Charge”

Scripture: 1 John 4:16–18

Fear often hides behind busyness, control, or withdrawal. The people addressed in 1 John lived with fear—fear of judgment, fear of exclusion, fear of not being enough. Into that fear, the writer speaks a powerful truth: “Perfect love casts out fear.”

When love becomes central, fear loses its authority. Life doesn’t become easier, but it becomes steadier. We no longer have to protect ourselves at all costs.

Putting first things first means choosing love as our home base, even when anxiety tries to take over.

Reflection Question:
What fear tends to drive your reactions when you’re under pressure?

Concrete Practice:
When you feel anxious today, pause and say: “I am held in love.”

Prayer:
God, let your love cast out my fear and steady my heart. Amen.
