Delight in Doing God's Will - Saturday, 11/22/2025
Scripture: Psalm 40:6-8
"Sacrifice and offering you did not desire—but my ears you have opened—burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. Then I said, 'Here I am, I have come—it is written about me in the scroll. I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.'"
We've spent this week exploring what it means to give to God what is God's. We've seen the widow's two coins, the mustard seed's small beginning, the treasure worth everything, and the fast God chooses. Now we end where authentic giving begins: with delight.
The psalmist discovers something revolutionary — God doesn't want our reluctant compliance or our guilt-driven offerings. God wants our hearts. "I desire to do your will, my God." This is the language of identity, not obligation. This is someone who has discovered that bearing God's image, living in alignment with God's generous nature, isn't a burden to carry but a joy to embrace.
When God's law is written in your heart, generosity becomes natural. You don't give because you have to. You give because it's who you are. You love because God's image is stamped on your soul. This is the freedom Jesus offers — freedom from performance, freedom into authenticity. When you know whose you are, loving and giving become as natural as breathing.
Reflection Question: As you reflect on this week's journey, has your understanding of giving shifted from obligation to identity? What would change if you approached generosity with delight?
Action Step: Write a brief letter to God expressing what you've discovered this week about authentic loving and authentic giving. Keep it somewhere you can revisit when generosity feels hard.
Prayer: God, write Your law on my heart. Transform my giving from duty to delight. Help me live authentically as Your image-bearer, loving and giving freely because it's who I am in You. Thank You for this week's journey. Amen.
