Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18; Philippians 4:6–7
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18)
“Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6–7)
Corrie ten Boom and her sister Betsie chose to give thanks for everything, even fleas in a concentration camp. What seemed unbearable became God’s provision, protecting them from guards and giving them freedom to worship. Gratitude has the power to transform pain into perspective.
When we give thanks, even in difficult circumstances, we are not denying our struggles. Instead, we are declaring trust in a God who is still at work. Gratitude shifts our focus from what we lack to what we’ve been given.
Application:
Gratitude doesn’t erase hardship, but it reminds us God is present in it.
Action Step:
Write a note, text, or prayer of thanks to someone—or to God—for something you might normally overlook.
Prayer:
God, open my eyes to the gifts hidden in my day. Teach me to give thanks in all things. Amen.
