The Joy of God’s Great Reversal
Scripture: Psalm 113:5–9
“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap…”
Mary’s song celebrates a God who overturns injustice, lifts the lowly, and fills the hungry. Long before Mary, the psalmists sang this same truth: God delights in lifting the overlooked.
We live in a culture that rewards the strong, the successful, and the influential. But God’s heart beats differently. God sees the ones we miss—the single parent working two jobs, the lonely senior, the immigrant learning a new language, the child who feels invisible.
God is not neutral about suffering. God is actively working to raise the oppressed, restore dignity, and bring hope. And part of our joy comes from joining God’s work—seeing as God sees, lifting as God lifts.
When we align our lives with God’s compassion, joy grows not only in the person we serve… but in us.
Reflection Question: Who around you might God be inviting you to notice and lift up today?
Action Step: Do one simple, concrete act of kindness for someone who may feel unseen—a service worker, neighbor, or coworker.
Prayer: Compassionate God, help me see the lowly with Your eyes and lift them with Your love. Amen.
