Joy That Holds SteadySunday, 01/11/2026

Scripture: Psalm 16

Joy is often confused with happiness, but Scripture makes a clear distinction. Happiness rises and falls with circumstances. Joy, in Psalm 16, flows from something deeper: knowing where your life is anchored.

The psalmist speaks of God as “refuge,” “portion,” and “inheritance.” These are not poetic extras—they are survival words. In a world where land meant food, security, and future, to say “God is my portion” was to say, “My life is held, even if everything else shifts.”

This joy does not ignore danger or deny hardship. It grows from trust. It’s the quiet confidence that God is present now and faithful in the future.

A stronger life doesn’t eliminate storms. It knows where to take shelter.

Reflection Question:
Where do you currently look for a sense of security or stability?

Concrete Practice:
At the start or end of today, pray: “God, you are my refuge and my portion today.”

Prayer:
God, help me anchor my joy in your presence rather than my circumstances. Amen.
