Scripture: “Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them.” – Hebrews 13:3
Most of us have never been behind bars, but scripture reminds us to imagine ourselves there. To “remember” in the biblical sense means more than calling something to mind—it means to act with compassion. When we remember people in prison, we treat them with the same dignity we’d want if we were in their shoes.
Kairos volunteers don’t ignore people’s mistakes, but they see beyond them. They choose to see the person, not just the crime. That’s a lesson for us all. Everyone carries burdens others don’t see—chains of shame, regret, or failure. To remember them as if we were “in prison with them” is to step into their pain with empathy.
Reflection Question: Who do you know that feels trapped—by guilt, grief, or hard circumstances—and needs your compassion?
Action Step: Write a note, text, or card to encourage someone who feels stuck in a difficult place. Remind them they aren’t alone.
Prayer: God of mercy, teach me to see others through Your eyes. Help me to remember and encourage those who feel forgotten. Amen.
