Scripture: Proverbs 3:5–6; Matthew 6:25–27
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5–6)
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?” (Matthew 6:25–27)
We spend much of life trying to control outcomes—our future, health, finances, or relationships. Yet control is an illusion. The Teacher in Ecclesiastes reminds us that no one can control the day of their death. Jesus echoed this when He asked, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?”
Surrender is not giving up—it is trusting God with what we cannot change. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, facing death in a Nazi prison, called it “the end—for me, the beginning of life.” To hold life with open hands is to release fear and receive peace.
Application:
God is trustworthy even in the things you cannot fix or predict.
Action Step:
Tonight, name one thing you’ve been trying to control. Pray, then release it into God’s hands.
Prayer:
Father, I release my worries and trust You with the things I cannot control. Fill me with Your peace. Amen.
