“I Am Not Enough”—And That’s Where God Begins — Saturday, 05/02/2026

Scripture: Jeremiah 1:4–10

When God called Jeremiah, his first response was not excitement—it was hesitation. “I don’t know how to speak,” he said. “I’m too young.” In other words: I’m not enough.

That response feels familiar. When we sense a step we’re meant to take—a conversation, a responsibility, a new direction—our first instinct is often to list all the reasons we’re not ready. We compare ourselves, question our abilities, and quietly step back.

But God doesn’t argue with Jeremiah’s résumé. Instead, God reframes the entire situation: “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young.’ You will go where I send you… Don’t be afraid… for I am with you.”

God doesn’t deny Jeremiah’s fear. God redirects his focus.

The call is not based on Jeremiah’s capability—it’s grounded in God’s presence. The strength Jeremiah needs will come as he steps into what God is asking him to do.

That’s often how God works. Not by waiting until we feel fully prepared, but by meeting us in the middle of our uncertainty. The fear doesn’t disappear first. The step comes first—and then God meets us there.

The question is not whether you feel ready. The question is whether you are willing to trust the One who is calling you.

Reflection Question: Where are you telling yourself, “I’m not enough” right now?

Next Step: Identify one situation where you feel unqualified. Then take one small step into it this week—even if you don’t feel ready.

Prayer: God, I see my limitations so clearly. Help me trust that your presence is greater than my fears. Give me courage to step forward anyway. Amen.
