Listening on the Mountain — Sunday 2/15

Scripture: Matthew 17:1–9

The Transfiguration is a moment when the disciples see Jesus more clearly than ever before. His face shines, his clothes glow, and God’s voice speaks from the cloud. For a brief moment, confusion gives way to clarity. They see who Jesus truly is.

Yet this moment comes right after Jesus talks about suffering and the cross. God’s glory appears next to hard news, not instead of it. That reminds us that God’s presence does not erase difficulty; it strengthens us to walk through it.

Peter wants to stay on the mountain. He wants to build tents and hold onto the moment. We understand that feeling. When God feels close, we want it to last forever.

But the story doesn’t end on the mountain. Jesus leads them back down into everyday life. Mountaintop moments are gifts, but they are meant to shape how we live in the valley.

Reflection Question:
When have you experienced a “mountaintop” moment with God that gave you clarity or reassurance?

Action Step:
Write down one time God felt especially real or near in your life. Keep it somewhere you can revisit.

Prayer:
Revealing God, help me listen to Christ and trust what you show me, even when life feels uncertain. Amen.
