Neighbors Instead of Enemies — Saturday, 05/16/2026
Scripture: Romans 12:18-21
Paul writes: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Those words feel deeply needed right now.
So much of modern life trains people to react quickly, assume motives, escalate conflict, and stay angry. Outrage has become a kind of entertainment. Fear keeps people emotionally exhausted and spiritually guarded.
But the way of Jesus moves differently.
The gospel does not call us to become passive or naïve. It calls us to resist becoming people shaped by bitterness, resentment, and fear.
Every small act of grace pushes back against that darkness.
A calm response instead of an angry one.
A conversation instead of avoidance.
A prayer instead of retaliation.
A willingness to listen instead of assuming the worst.
None of those things change the world overnight.
But they slowly change us.
And when communities begin practicing that kind of love together, enemies slowly begin looking more like neighbors.
That is the kind of church—and the kind of world—God is calling us toward.
Reflection Question: How might God be inviting me to become a peacemaker instead of simply reacting to conflict?
Action Step: Choose one relationship this week where you will intentionally respond with patience, kindness, or understanding instead of defensiveness.
Prayer: God of peace, help me overcome fear, resentment, and division with the steady power of your love and grace. Amen.
